REVIEW: “Baby Countdown Timer and Weekly Report” by Widgetbox.com, part 2

Baby Countdown Timer and Weekly Report

The first pregnancy countdown widget at Widgetbox. com, the “Baby Countdown Timer and Weekly Report” (by mannj24), does not have any images or pictures. It is a serious-looking, no nonsense widget.

You have the possibility of customizing its width and height before using it. The next step is to enter a ‘Heading Label’ that will be displayed at the top of the pregnancy countdown timer (‘Baby Status’, ‘Countdown’, your baby’s name, a joke, whatever title you wish to give to the countdown widget).

The last step is to enter the due month, due day and due year and click on “Get Widget”.

The user may then either copy the embedded code to paste on their web page, blog etc or directly select Facebook, MySpace, WordPress, LiveJournal etc without copying and pasting the code.

At this stage, pregnant women are also given the option to share their customized pregnancy countdown timer by clicking on the ‘Share’ option, allowing them to directly email the widget to a friend, or to add it to Del.icio.us, Twitter, Technocrati etc. There is also a ‘Help’ option at this stage of the process.

As for the design of the baby countdown widget, directly beneath the chosen heading, “Baby Countdown Timer and Weekly Report” the countdown widget displays the number of days to delivery. Underneath that is the due date, and under the date is a ‘Progress Meter’ indicating the pregnancy week.

It looks like a ruler marked at five-week intervals from zero to 40 weeks, with an arrow pointing at the appropriate pregnancy week. Below the ‘Progress Meter’ are three lines (X Weeks Pregnant, X Weeks To Delivery and X Hours To Delivery).

Then comes a section entitled “Baby Stats” that indicates the baby’s length (in inches) and the weight (in ounces).

The final section of the widget is the ‘Week X Progress’ section, which displays a piece of information on what the fetus is doing. For example, for Week 25, the display reads, “This week the baby will mostly just sleep!” and for Week 12, the display is, “This week an ultrasound could reveal my sex.”

Overall, the “Baby Countdown Timer and Weekly Report” is a useful pregnancy countdown calendar. The only thing missing is that it makes no allowance for multiple pregnancies – and it is not a “fun” pregnancy countdown widget with very little color and absolutely no images.
